Scandi Sales for Small World

Thai format The Fan is continuing its international roll-out, after Small World IFT sealed a deal in Sweden, one of two Nordic sales for the distributor.

Swedish net TV4 has greenlit production of The Fan, a studio-based gameshow that pits five obsessed fans against each other in a competition to see who is the most passionate.

The original Thai version (Fan Pan Tae) was produced by Workpoint Entertainment for Royal Thai Army Radio & Television. It had a nine-year run, totalling more than 440 episodes between 2000 and 2009.

Tim Crescenti, founder and president of Small World IFT, said: “This is the first Thai format to be exported and certainly a first for the important Sweden market.”

He also confirmed to C21 the Thai format is under option in France (via Endemol), Norway and Denmark (Nice Productions), and in the US (Octagon Entertainment). “We’re inches away from a US channel commission,” he added.

Other news from Content Media-backed Small World includes a production deal with one of the TVNorge channels in Norway for a local version of Finnish format The Night Patrol, which follows police around cities at night. ITV Studios Nordic is producing.

Small World shops the format after a deal with its creator, Helsinki-based Aito Media, which produced the original Finnish version for Nelonen-owned channel Jim.

Crescenti couldn’t confirm which of the TVNorge channels would air the show or the launch date but added that The Night Patrol has also been optioned by ITV Studios in Sweden.

Further deals have been inked based on Small World properties. German format Cash at Your Door (aka Cash Kitchen), created by Tresor TV, has been renewed by French channel Gulli TV and optioned in the US (via Robyn Nash Productions) and Canada (Suddenly SeeMore Productions).

The Kitchen Musical, another show sold by Small World, won the best scripted format award at the C21/Frapa International Format Awards at Mipcom this month. It was created by The Group Entertainment of Singapore.
